The Violence Intervention Worker Study

CORNERS is partnering with local Community Violence Intervention (CVI) leaders to conduct the Violence Intervention Worker Study (VIeWS). VIeWS draws upon repeated surveys—co-developed with a network of Chicago-based street outreach organizational partners—to better understand the working conditions and well-being of Chicago’s CVI workforce over time.

The study will:

  1. Develop foundational knowledge about street outreach worker backgrounds and demographics, life histories, human and social capital, relationships with clients and neighborhoods, work organization and supervision, family and home life, and exposure to trauma and substance use.
  2. Identify trends in the careers of Chicago’s street outreach workers to help inform ways to improve the professional experience of street outreach workers.

VIeWS is a first-of-its-kind survey aimed at better understanding the lives, professional experiences, and backgrounds of the street outreach workers who play such a pivotal role in violence prevention in Chicago.
